“The Fall of the House of Usher”, by Phillip Glass

Scenic Design/Lighting Design

The story concerns the narrator’s visit to a strange mansion owned by his childhood friend, who is behaving increasingly oddly as he and his twin sister dwell within the ‘melancholy’ atmosphere of the house. My design is a constantly-moving series of reflective triangles, which breathe and sway with the music of the opera. By doing this, the design invokes the feeling that the house is alive, with the sharp edges implying the characters imminent danger in said house.
